Opportunities – Spring 2021

Qualifications:

  • Completed the 2020 WV Farmers Market Annual Census (or new in 2021); and
  • Member of the Association (optional, but preferred)

Opportunity 1: Localized Information Exchange Program

Overview: This program provides resources and technical assistance to nine farmers markets in West Virginia to train farmers market managers as service providers for their producers. There are currently two spaces available.

Requirements:

  • Complete 2021 WV Farmers Market Census;
  • Attend in-person and virtual training events and monthly peer network meetings as required;
  • Record and report data metrics from sales and customer count during the market season on a monthly basis to WVFMA staff;
  • Strengthen relationships with producers, identify barriers in their business development and share producer barriers with WVFMA staff; and
  • Host two training events for producers using materials and resources provided.

Opportunity 2: COVID-19 Recovery – Technology Fund

Overview: This fund is to support farmers markets and other direct-to-consumer businesses that may benefit from access to technology (including software, mobile applications, equipment, etc.), but cost is a significant barrier in exploring options available. There is limited funding available.

Requirements:

  • Complete 2021 WV Farmers Market Census; and
  • Report periodically to WVFMA staff about the technology used as a result of participation.

Opportunity 3: COVID-19 Recovery – Rapid Market Assessment Farmers Market Manager Consultants

Overview: Managers will assist WVFMA staff in development of a “Rapid Market Assessment” for in-person and virtual assessment of farmers markets. This model will be used to enhance farmers markets as small business incubators and thriving community gathering places. Ten markets will be selected and provided $250 to support data collection and accurate reporting.

Requirements:

  • Complete 2021 WV Farmers Market Census;
  • Attend a workshop on Data Collection offered by the WVFMA; and
  • Engage WVFMA staff and assist with on-site visits to the participating farmers market.

Opportunity 4: COVID-19 Recovery – Sanitation and Supplies Request

Overview: Farmers Markets may request supplies to support implementation of sanitation practices at their markets. Supplies may include but are not limited to: masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, wash stations, paper towels, soap, and cleaning supplies. Available while supplies and funding last on a first-come, first-served basis.
