In 2007, a group of farmers, with guidance from the WVU Extension Service and the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences, with a West Virginia Department of Agricuture grant, took steps to create a statewide farmers market association--the West Virginia Farmers Market Association (WVFMA). The goal of the association is to strengthen viability of farmers markets across the state. Cooperation will be fostered among members in solving problems related to the production and marketing of farm products and improvement in marketing activities.

What we want to do:

• Website posting, with updates, of your farmers market.
• Make resources availble for download from WVFMA website (for exaple, templates for bylaws, market rules, vendor applications and marketing and promotional materials).
• Cooperative approach to issues of concern to all markets (for example, access to group liability insurance).
• Cooperative purchasing or exchange opportunities.
• Education activities for market farmers and market managers.
• Education activities for consumers about farmers markets and products.
• Annual meeting and voting rights depending on member category.
